XS1100 Chain Conversion

Post  Smoke-Dog on Tue Mar 15, 2011 4:32 am

Well i finally finished the mill work for the XS1100 chain conversion, now i have to order new bearings and a sprocket. Then setup a swingarm and rear wheel so i can figure out spacers...

Looking really REALLY good there Smoke!

What was the final look you are going after? A Yamaha Kenny Roberts version of the Kawasaki Eddie Lawson Replica's (and the ZRX series)???

You Have Talent Smoke

A lot more than I have!! All I can do is change oil, add gas, wash them once in awhile and ride them.

Sometimes I'm forced to do more than that but I don't like it. I wouldn't even attempt to do what your are doing. Matter of fact, I didn't, I just rode mine for 4 years and liked it.

I use to roll it on about half way in low gear then turn it on and it would pull the wheel, no clutching to get it up. When it came down I would hit 2nd and it would pull it up again.

The Kawasaki boys thought the first time I brought it up was the 2nd gear shift and the 2nd time was a 3rd grear shift. I never told them any different. ha ha..

My 1982 GS1100E would pull it in 2nd and 3rd, I almost took it over backwards once with Sheryl on the back. The Suk had more power on the top end than my XS-11 did and it took me by surprise.

The XS-11 had about 83 hp at the back wheel of the first year Yamaha, they went down from there. The Suk put out 92hp at the back wheel, so it had a pretty good kick on the top end.

The FJ-1100 made the Zuk seem slow on the top end. What a Face

The plan is to find a subframe with a tail section that has the same lines as the tank. Im going to try and use R6 parts to keep it all Yamaha but i want to use a swingarm & wheel that takes a 200 tire, not sure if yamaha has something that big. If not i'll try to get a BKing swingarm and wheel off of ebay...

With the use of an aluminum subframe, swingarm, lighter wheels and the absence of the heavy drive shaft, she should be really prone to wheelies!!!

Sounds like a legitimate business expense to me -

And I think we even know an operator!

The swingarm i chose for the project (00-03 GSXR750) was laying on my door step last night. I'll make some measurements and see if i can't make her fit this weekend...
